Trojans fall to Tritons, 81-74
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped an 81-74 decision to Iowa Central Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
Iowa Central (23-6 overall, 15-5 in the ICCAC) led 40-31 at the half. NIACC outscored the Tritons 43-41 in the second 20 minutes to trim the final deficit to seven points.
Alex Sempere led the Tritons with 21 points and nine rebounds. CJ Mitchell was next in line for the Tritons with 16 points.
Sophomore guard Jacob Martin led NIACC with a game-high 22 points. Martin also had eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Lance Helming scored 16 points with five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Freshman TJ Cusciotta scored 10 points with four rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot.
NIACC (16-14, 8-12) opens NJCAA Region 11-B tournament play at Iowa Central on Saturday. Game time in Fort Dodge is slated for 3:30 p.m.
