Trojans fall to Spartans, 82-80
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped a 82-80 decision to Southwestern CC Saturday afternoon in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
NIACC led 39-34 at the half, but the Spartans outscored the Trojans 48-41 in the second 20 minutes to claim the narrow 2-point victory.
The Spartans (5-12 overall, 1-7 in the ICCAC) was led by freshman guard Nico Wilson with a game-high 23 points. Sophomore Justine De La Cruz was next in line for the Spartans with 20 points.
Sophomore forward Lance Helming led the Trojans with 19 points with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot.
Freshman TJ Cusciotta scored 15 points. Sophomore Cameron Reigard scored 14 points, all in the first half, and Kam'ron Solomon came off the bench to score 14 points.
Reigard and Solomon both connected on four 3-point goals and Helming drained three 3-point goals.
Reigard led the Trojans with 10 rebounds to go with his 14 points. It was Reigard's second double/double of the season and third of his career.
Solomon also had three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
NIACC (10-7, 3-5) returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC contest at No. 6 Iowa Central. Game time in Fort Dodge is slated for 7:30 p.m.
