Trojans knock off No. 13 Reivers, 81-79
MASON CITY - NIACC's Jacob Martin scored a career-high 35 points in Saturday's game against No. 13 Iowa Western.
But it was his assist to teammate RJ Mitchell in the final seconds that gave the Trojans the 81-79 upset victory in the NIACC gym.
With the game tied 79-79, Martin drove into the lane and dished to Mitchell, who converted the game-winning basket with about five seconds in the contest.
NIACC's Kam'ron Solomon came up with a steat at mid-court to seal the victory as the Trojans won for the second straight time.
It was the second win over a rated team this season for the Trojans, who upset then No. 5 Iowa Central 104-99 in overtime on Jan. 14 in Fort Dodge.
Martin was 11 of 14 from the field, including a 4 of 4 performance from 3-point range, for his career-best 35 points. Martin's previous career best was 29 points against DCTC on Nov. 18.
The 35 points by Martin was the most by a Trojan since TJ Cusciotta scored 30 in the road win this season against Iowa Central.
Martin also had six assists and four rebounds.
Solomon scored 15 points with five rebounds and two steals.
Also for the Trojans, Joseph Fitch scored eight points while Mitchell and Jordan Terhune both scored seven points.
Terhune led the Trojans with seven rebounds.
NIACC (14-11 overall, 6-9 in the ICCAC) trailed 34-33 at the half but outscored the Reivers 48-45 in the second 20 minutes.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at No. 2 DMACC. Game time in Boone is slated for 7:30 p.m.
