Trojans face Johnson County CC in national quarterfinals
HICKORY, N.C. - The NIACC women's basketball team will play Johnson County CC at noon (EDT) on Thursday in the NJCAA Division II national tournament quarterfinals in the Tarlton Complex on the Catawba Valley CC campus.
Eighth-seed NIACC (28-3) topped ninth-seed Lincoln Land CC 84-65 in its opening round tournament game Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Ciara Seifert led the Trojans with 24 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore Reggi Spotts scored 22 points.
Johnson County CC (33-0) opened its national tournament with a 83-58 win over Cleveland CC on Tuesday. The defending national champion Cavaliers will carry a 37-game winning streak into Thursday's quarterfinal contest.
In Johnson County's win over Cleveland CC, Layla Scott led the Cavaliers with 19 points. Mia Adams scored 14 points for the Cavaliers.
In other quarterfinal games on Thursday, 12th seed Union College faces fourth-seed Pima CC at 2 p.m. (EDT), 10th seed Parkland College takes on second-seed Illinois Central at 4 p.m. (EDT) and sixth-seed Kirkwood plays third-seed Harcum College at 6 p.m. (EDT).
Four consolation bracket contests are set for Wednesday at the Tarlton Complex.
