No. 17 Trojans roll in opener, 101-36
MASON CITY - The No. 17 NIACC women's basketball team opened the season with a convincing 101-36 victory over Blackhawk Technical College Friday night on the first day of the Konigsmark Klassic.
Freshman Peyton Meincke led the Trojans with 13 points and sophomore Reggi Spotts was also in double figures with 10 points.
NIACC led 29-9 after the first quarter and were never threatned. The Trojans outscored Blackhawk Tech 27-8 in the second quarter, 27-11 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth frame to claim the 65-point victory.
Sixth-year NIACC head coach Brad Vaught improved to 5-1 in season openers.
Also for the Trojans on Friday, freshman Taylor Hemann scored nine points, freshman Ella Mullenbach scored eight points and freshman Emerson Ingvalson scored eight points.
NIACC's Ella Stoskopf and Ciara Siefert both grabbed six rebounds. Spotts, Hemann, Kelsey McDonough and Zaria Falls all had three steals for the Trojans.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. against Elgin CC on day two of the Konigsmark Klassic.
