Trojans earn No. 8 seed for national tournament
HICKORY, N.C. - The NIACC women's basketball team earned the No. 8 seed for the upcoming NJCAA Division II national tournament.
NIACC (27-3) faces ninth-seed Lincoln Land CC (28-4) in the opening round of the national tournament at 2 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday, March 17. at the Tarlton Complex on the Catawba Valley Community College campus.
NIACC earned an automatic bid for the national tournament by claiming the NJCAA Region 11-B championship. The Trojans topped Northeast CC 69-55 in their regional title game on March 2 in the NIACC gym.
Lincoln Land CC earned one of the four at-large bids as the Loggers were the runner-up in NJCAA Region 24. Illinois Central topped the Loggers in the regional title game 65-58.
DMACC earned the No. 13 seed for the national tournament. The Bears face 20th seed Monroe CC in their opening round game at 10 a.m. (EDT) on Monday, March 16.
Kirkwood, an at-large selection, is the sixth-seed and will face 11th seed CCBC Essex at 8 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, March 16.
