No. 14 Trojans top No. 24 Hawks, 71-64
MASON CITY - The battled of rated teams went to the Trojans.
No. 14 NIACC edged No. 24 Northeast CC 71-64 in an ICCAC women's basketball contest Saturday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
Freshman Ciara Seifert scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds to lead the Trojans to their sixth straight win. It was Seifert's ninth double/double of the season.
Sophomore Reggi Spotts scored 20 points for the Trojans with five assists, four steals and three rebounds.
The 22 rebounds by Seifert ranks third on the school's all-time single-game rebounding list. Sharlene Langhoff (1978-79) holds the school's single-game record with 27 and Marla Shuey (1973-74) ranks second with 24.
NIACC (16-2 overall, 10-2 in the ICCAC) trailed 20-14 after the first quarter but outscored the Hawks 21-8 in the second quarter to take a 35-28 lead at the half.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Peyton Meincke scored 12 points and freshman Machaela Trask scored nine points, including three 3-point goals.
Falls collected seven rebounds and garnered five steals.
Northeast CC (12-5, 7-4) was led by Aaliyah Jones with a game-high 25 points. Jones also had seven rebounds, seven assists, four steals and one blocked shot.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC game at Ellsworth. Game time in Iowa Falls is slated for 5:30 p.m.
