No. 7 NIACC earns 3 top seeds at district meet
CENTERVILLE – No. 7 NIACC has three top-seeded wrestlers for Sunday's NJCAA North Central District tournament at Lakeview Elementary.
The district tournament is slated to start at 10 a.m.
Earning top seeds and first-round byes for the Trojans were Quentrevion Campbell (141), Christian Minto (165) and Jose Valdez (197).
All three of those NIACC wrestlers claimed titles at the 2021 district meet in Council Bluffs.
Campbell (8-1) is unranked at 141 pounds. Minto (9-0) is top-ranked at 165 pounds and Valdez (10-0) is ranked second at 197 pounds.
At 141 pounds, Campbell will face Ryan Graves (Ellsworth) or Darnai Heard (Iowa Central) in the semifinals.
At 165 pounds, Minto will face Dominique Johnson (Iowa Lakes) or fifth-ranked Cameron Nesbitt (Indian Hills) in the semifinals.
At 197 pounds, Valdez will meet Isaiah Laguna (Ellsworth) or Michael Aguirre (Iowa Western) in the semifinals.
The district meet features six nationally ranked teams. Iowa Central is ranked third, Indian Hills is fifth, NIACC is seventh, Iowa Western is ninth, Iowa Lakes is 10th and Ellsworth is 15th.
The national tournament is set for March 4-5 in Council Bluffs.
