NIACC wrestlers rout Minnesota West CTC, 43-3
MASON CITY - The No. 6 NIACC wrestling team picked up its first dual victory of the season on Wednesday, topping Minnesota West Community and Technical College 43-3 inside the NIACC Recreation Center.
The Trojans received wins by forfeit from Brody Hawtrey (149), Clay Schemmel (157), Ryan Van Donselaar (174), Cale Luthens (184), Drew Fox (197) and Jaylin Smith (285). Neither team had a wrestler at 125 pounds.
In the three contested matches, No. 10 Clarence Lee-Green won by a 19-5 major decision over Ayden Rienhardt at 133 pounds before Minnesota West's Jacob Vogel got the better of Connor Wiemann, winning 10-4 at 141.
In the featured match of the dual, top-ranked Christian Minto was able to hold off No. 7 Damon Ashworth for a 5-3 decision at 165 pounds.
NIACC returns to action on Jan. 8 when the Trojans travel to the Central College Invitational.
