NIACC falls to Iowa Central, 36-6
FORT DODGE - No. 10 Iowa Central stopped No. 7 NIACC 36-6 in an ICCAC dual meet Tuesday night.
Iowa Central (1-1 in duals) won seven of the nine contested matches and gained a win by forfeit at 125 pounds.
NIACC (0-2 in duals) gained wins from Brody Hawtrey at 149 pounds and Jose Valdez at 197 pounds.
Hawtrey took a 9-6 decision from Iowa Central's Justice Hefley to win his 149-pound match. It was the first match of the season for Hawtrey.
At 197 pounds, Valdez, who is ranked second, edged the Tritons' Trevion Sample 5-4 in his first match of the 2021-22 season.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at the Coe College Invitational in Cedar Rapids.
Notes: Hawtrey improved is career record to 5-5 ... Valdez, who was the national runner-up at 197 pounds in 2021, moved his career mark to 21-6.
