NIACC's McCleish claims title at Luther Hill Invite
INDIANOLA - NIACC's Chase McCleish claimed the 184-pound title in the freshman/sophomore division at the Simpson College Luther Hill Invitational on Saturday.
McCleish took an 18-4 major decision from Simpson College's Nathan Keating in the title match. McCleish won his quarterfinal match by sudden victory (7-5) over Elijah Davis, who was wrestling unattached.
McCleish also gained a sudden victory (8-4) over Graceland University's Cameron Cornman in his semifinal match.
NIACC's Cale Luthens placed second at 174 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division. Luthens was pinned by Upper Iowa's Cael Meyer in the title match. Luthens won his quarterfinal match by injury default and he pinned Graceland University's Zach Duncan in 1:06 in the semifinals.
NIACC's Connor Wiemann placed fifth at 141 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division and Colin Muller was sixth at 184 pounds.
In the open division, Deville Dentis was sixth at 149 pounds and Troy Monahan III was sixth at 285 pounds.
NIACC opens its dual meet season at home on Wednesday against Iowa Western. The meet is slated to start at 7 p.m. in the NIACC Recreation Center.
