NIACC's Randick wins Hawkeye CC Fall Shootout
WATERLOO - NIACC sophomore Danielle Randick, playing as an individual, claimed individual medalist honors Thursday at the Hawkeye CC Fall Shootout at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course.
Randick, who is from Ames, shot a career-best 84 in the Trojans' season-opening meet of the 2025-26 season. Hawkeye CC's Grace Burg and Southeastern's Sophie Malott also shot 84 but Randick earned individual medalist honors via the card back.
Randick's previous career best was a 92 at the Grand View Fall Invitational on Oct. 14, 2024.
"Outstanding work (Thursday) by Danielle Randick," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "as she was the winner of the tournament (Thursday).
"She's been trending in the right direction in practice and it's great to see her succeed in such a big way. Unfortunately for us, she was playing as an individual and didn't count in the team scoring."
NIACC placed second in the team standings with a round of 362. Host Hawkeye CC was the team champion with a 359.
Also for the Trojans on Thursday, freshman Emma Topp shot a 88 and placed fifth in the individual medalist competition. Freshman Audrey Overgaard shot 89, sophomore Ashlyn Berven shot 91, freshman Avery Knutsen shot 94, sophomore Addy Boell shot 95 and sophomore Kaiya Holten shot 102.
"Emma Topp had a nice day," Frenz said. "I was very pleased with her effort.
"Audrey got off to a rough start, but she really worked hard to get back into the round."
NIACC returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Mount Mercy University Fall Invitational in Cedar Rapids.
"We have a tough tournament this weekend at Hunters Ridge in Cedar Rapids and we'll be ready to go," Frenz said.
Team standings - Hawkeye CC 359, NIACC 362, Southeastern CC 413, Graceland University 441, Hawkeye CC B 459.
