Trojans set school marks at Wartburg Triangular
WAVERLY - NIACC sophomore Gabe Hemsworth won the 400-meter hurdles Tuesday at the Wartburg College triangular in a school record time of 54.31 seconds.
Hemsworth, who is from Mount Pleasant, broke his own school record of 54.53 at the Butler CC Grizzly Gold Invitational on April 10, 2026. Hemsworth's time of 54.31 also qualified him for the NJCAA national champiohships.
Also Tuesday, NIACC's Kahuan Harris won the high jump with a leap of 2.02 meters (6 feet, 7 1/2 inches), which tied the outdoor school record held by Fabian Steene at the Grand View Viking Classic on April 28, 2023. Harris' leap on Tuesday also qualified him for the NJCAA national championships.
Codling placed second in the long jump on Tuesday with a leap of 1.97 meters (6-5 1/2), which ranks fourth on the school's all-time outdoor high jump list.
NIACC's Aldaine Angus, Codling, Alex Marchand Fierro and Tyjah Bishop won the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 40.73 seconds, which qualified the foursome for the NJCAA national championships. The time of 40.73 was just off the school record of 40.64 set at the NJCAA national championships on May 15, 2025.
Also Tuesday, Codling won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.73 seconds. Angus was second in 10.91 and Bishop was fourth in 10.93.
Hararis won the long jump with a leap of 6.85 meters (22-5 3/4) and Javon Kille was second with a jump of 6.28 meters (20-7 1/4).
In the triple jump, NIACC's Javon Kille was third with a leap of 13.85 meters (45-5 1/4), which ranks second on the school's all-time triple jump list.
In the discus, NIACC's Marshall Zeien was fourth with a toss of 39.42 meters (129-4).
The NJCAA national championships are set for May 12-15 in Hobbs, N.M.
