Trojans' Codling places 3rd in long jump
TOPEKA, Kan. - NIACC sophomore Xavier Codling is an all-American.
The Kingston, Jamaica native placed third in the long jump on Friday at the NJCAA Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships at Washburn University to earn all-American honors. Codling earned his third-place finish with a personal best leap of 7.39 meters (24 feet, 3 inches).
The jump ranks second on the school's all-time indoor list. Terrence Thomas holds the school indoor long jump record with a leap of 7.42 meters (24-4 1/2).
Thomas and Codling are the only two Trojans in school history to long jump 24 feet indoors.
Also Friday, NIACC's Gavin Grunhovd placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run in a personal best time of 14 minutes, 51.23 seconds, which ranks second on the school's indoor 5K list.
The school reocrd in the 5,000 is 14:50.03 by Jordan Anderson at the 2008 national indoor meet.
