NIACC's Grunhovd sets school record in mile
STORM LAKE - NIACC's Gavin Grunhovd placed second in the mile run Saturday at the NJCAA Region 11 indoor track and field championships on the Buena Vista campus.
Grunhovd earned is second-place finish in a school record time of four minute, 15.17 seconds. Iowa Western's Pierre Carlier was the regional champion in the mile in a time of 4:14.82.
Grunhovd broke the old school record of 4:18.90 by Trey Simons at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Feb. 14, 2015.
NIACC placed third in the men's team standings with 111 points.
Iowa Central was the team champion with 282.5 points and Iowa Western was second with 201.5 points.
Also for the Trojans Saturday, Javon Kille placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.43 meters (44 feet, 0 3/4 inches), which ranks second on the school's indoor triple jump list.
NIACC's Sha'vion Jackson was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.39, which ranks second on the school's all-time list. The Trojans' Alex Marchand Fierro was fifth in 8.55 and Lucas Hurley was eighth (9.01).
In the 400, NIACC's Gabe Hemsworth was fourth in a time of 50.03, which ranks fifth on the school's all-time indoor list. Marchand Fierro was fifth in 50.39 and Ra'Shaun Sinwell was ninth in 52.05.
In the high jump, NIACC's Kahuan Harris was fourth with a leap of 1.91 meters (6-3 1/4), which is tied for fourth on the school's all-time indoor high jump list. Xavier Codling, who won the long jump and 200 on Friday, placed sixth with a leap of 1.86 meters (6-1 1/4).
In the 800, NIACC's Xander Graeser placed fifth in a time of 2:04.09.
In the shot put, NIACC;s Colin Rasch, who was third in the weight throw on Friday, placed ninth in the shot put with a toss of 13.05 meters (42-9 3/4).
