MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Marshalltown CC Tiger Invitational.
Highland CC (Kan.) topped NIACC 3-0 winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-19.
NIACC stopped Olive-Harvey College 3-0. The Trojans won 25-11, 25-21, 25-16.
"We started (Saturday) morning playing flat and without much energy," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "Unfortunately, whenever we make that choice, we have learned the outcome isn't going to be what we want.
"Lessons of working hard and controlling what we can control must be learned. Our second match of the day, we decided to take control and played much better with confidence and enthusiasm. Overall, we went 3-1 on the weekend and we are excited to be able to use the depth of our bench to provide breaks and changes when needed."
Sophomore Ellie Hanna led the Trojans with 15 kills and six blocks. NIACC's Megan Tobin had seven kills and eight digs.
NIACC's Addison Tabbert had seven kills, 12 digs and two ace serves. Emily Opstvedt had 30 assists, five digs and two ace serves.
Also for the Trojans, Kinsey Anderson had 30 digs, six ace serves and two assists, Alicia Machacek had seven kills, five blocks and three digs and Destiny Reasner had 13 digs.
NIACC's Emma Miller had 17 digs, four kills and one ace serve, Kenedee Frayne had 21 assists, seven digs, four ace serves and two kills, Hannah Brinkman had nine kills and four blocks and Alana Burton had two kills and one dig.
NIACC (6-7 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at Iowa Central in an ICCAC contest. Match time in Fort Dodge is slated for 7 p.m.
