NIACC men host Iowa Western on Saturday
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team hosts Iowa Western in a nonconference contest at 7 p.m. Saturday in the NIACC gym.
NIACC is off to a 4-0 start for the second straight season. The Trojans started 6-0 last season before dropping a 123-79 decision at Iowa Western.
Iowa Western (5-1 overall) topped Central CC-Columbus 109-76 on Nov. 14.
No. 20 (NJCAA Division I) Iowa Western's lone loss was a 99-85 defeat at the hands of Missouri State University-West Plains on Nov. 4.
NIACC picked up a pair of wins Nov. 10-11 at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls. The Trojans topped Milwaukee Area Tech 81-69 on Nov. 10 at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls and stopped Harper College 91-61 on Nov. 11.
Fast start
This is the fifth time a Mark Mohl-coached team has started 4-0. The Trojans started 4-0 in 2010-11, 9-0 in 2009-10 and 6-0 in 2008-09.
It is the 18th time in NIACC men's basketball history that the Trojans have started 4-0. The best start in school history was a 12-0 start in the 2003-04 season. The Trojans also started 11-0 in 1977-78 and 1984-85.
Climbing the charts
Sophomore Nick Wurm has 60 career 3-point goals, which ranks 33rd on the school's career 3-point list. He has has 118 career assists (46th on the school's career list) and418 career points (71st on school's career scoring list.)
Notes: NIACC leads the all-time series 19-8 ... The first meetings between the two schools were in the 1975-76 season with the Trojans winning 81-72 and 80-61.
