MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team dropped an ICCAC twinbill Wednesday to Ellsworth at Roosevelt Field.
Ellsworth (16-24 overall, 7-8 in the ICCAC) won the first game 13-8 and took the nightcap 21-19 in 10 innings. The 40 combined runs in the second game was the most in a game for the Trojans since they beat Marshalltown CC 23-17 in the second game of a doubleheader on March 28, 2025.
NIACC sophomore Jacob Neutz homered in both games on Wednesday moving his single-season home run total to 20 and his career total to 24.
The 20 home runs ranks fourth on the school's all-time single-season home run list. Robbie Glendinning (2016) is the all-time single-season leader with 25, Fox Leum (2019) ranks second with 24 and Malique Ziegler (2016) ranks third with 22.
Neutz, a sophomore from Burnsville, Minn., leads the Trojans with 59 RBIs, which ranks 14th on the school's all-time single-season RBI list.
In the first game Wednesday, sophomore Tommy Lyman collected three hits. Minchan Kim, Hunter Sandberg and James Hagen all had two hits for the Trojans.
Kim also homered for the Trojans in the opener - his 10th of the season and 11th of his career.
In the second game, NIACC pounded out 20 hits to score its 19 runs. The 20 hits matched the Trojans' season high as did the 19 runs.
NIACC also collected 20 hits in an 18-7 win over Iowa Lakes on March 31. The Trojans also scored 19 runs in a 19-7 win over Missouri State University-West Plains on Feb. 21.
Sandberg collected four hits for the Trojans. Lyman, Neutz and Tiago Cavallo had three hits apiece for the Trojans.
Lyman led the Trojans with four RBIs.
The game was tied 19-19 after nine innings and Ellsworth plated two runs in the top of the 10th inning to complete the league sweep.
UP NEXT
NIACC (6-32, 3-12) returns to action Sunday and Monday in an ICCAC 3-game series against Northeast CC (25-19, 8-7). The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday and a single game starting at 1 p.m. on Monday at Roosevelt Field.
