Quarterfinal matches set for tonight
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC wrestling team will be looking to send three wrestlers to the semifinals Wednesday night at the NJCAA Division I national wrestling tournament at the Mid-America Center.
The quarterfinal round is set to begin at 6:15 p.m.
NIACC's Clarence Lee-Green (125), Christian Minto (165) and Jose Valdez (197) all won two matches in the first two Wednesday sessions to stay alive on the championship side of the bracket.
NIACC's Quentrevion Campbell (141), Curtis Brock (157) and Randry Mugisha (174) all stayed alive in the consolation side of the bracket and will wrestle in third-round consolation matches Wednesday night.
In the championship quarterfinals, the seventh-ranked Lee-Green (6-3) faces Henry Ford's fourth-ranked Aseel Almudhala at 125 pounds.
The top-ranked Minto (10-0) faces seventh-ranked Cooper Mosier of Cloud County at 165 pounds.
The fourth-ranked Valdez (10-0) takes on Western Wyoming's unranked Tyler Scheurn at 197 pounds.
In the third-round consolation matches, Campbell (8-2) faces Garrett's Brady Villa at 141 pounds.
At 157 pounds, Brock (2-2) takes on Neosho's Sam Son.
At 174 pounds, Mugisha (2-7) wrestles Indian Hills' Justin Grant, who pinned Mugisha in 2 minutes, 41 seconds at the NJCAA Central District Tournament.
