No. 5 RCTC edges No. 10 NIACC on mat, 23-18
MASON CITY - The No. 10 NIACC wrestling team dropped a 23-18 decision to No. 5 RCTC Saturday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
RCTC and NIACC each won five of the 10 contested bouts with the Yellowjackets picking up two falls from 157-pounder Will VonRuden and 285-pounder Noah Brodersen.
NIACC picked up wins from Clarence Lee-Green (125), Quentrevion Campbell (141), Christian Minto (165), Chase McCleish (184) and Jose Valdez (197).
Minto, who is top-ranked at 165, took a 17-8 major decision from RCTC's second-ranked Seth Brossard. Minto improved his career record to 30-1.
It was the second career victory for Minto (8-0) over Brossard. Minto topped Brossard 12-10 in last season's national semifinal match at 165 pounds.
At 184 pounds, NIACC's McCleish edged RCTC's top-ranked Gavin Christoffersen, 3-1. McCleish (4-3) entered Saturday's match ranked eighth.
At 125 pounds, Lee-Green (4-3), who is ranked seventh, edged RCTC's Cale Bartels 8-6 by sudden victory.
At 141 pounds, NIACC's eighth-ranked Campbell (6-1) stopped the Yellowjackets' DJ Saunders, 6-2.
At 197 pounds, NIACC's fourth-ranked Valdez (8-0) gained a 17-2 techincal fall over the Yellowjackets' Mason Smid.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home in a dual against Minnesota West. The dual is slated to start at 6 p.m.
