ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - The NIACC men's soccer team opened its season with a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime victory over DCTC at the Ames Soccer Complex Saturday night.
Owen Andrews notched the game winner with 12.6 seconds remaining in the second 10-minute overtime session giving the Trojans the 1-goal victory. Andrews followed in a Trojan shot that had hit the right post.
NIACC trailed 1-0 early in the first half but managed to tie the game at intermission as Michael Donovan scored a late first-half goal on an assist from Mike Merchant.
The two teams played a scoreless second half and a scoreless first 10-minute overtime stanza before Andrews put away the game with a goal in the final seconds.
NIACC returns to action Sunday at Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minn. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
