No. 6 NIACC men stop Kansas City CC, 100-95
MASON CITY - Wendell Matthews scored 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead the No. 6 NIACC men's basketball team to a 100-95 victory over Kansas City (Kan.) CC on Friday night at the Konigsmark Klassic.
It is the third double/double of the season for Matthews and the 11th of his career.
NIACC (3-0 overall) also received 18 points from Trey Sampson and 17 points each from Deundra Roberson and Quentin Hardrict.
It is the third straight game this season with at least 100 points for the Trojans. It is the first time a NIACC men's basketball team has started the season with at least 100 points in three straight games since the 1971-72 season under coach Herb Konigsmark when the Trojans started the season with four games with at least 100 points.
The Trojans also started the 1967-68 season with three straight games with at least 100 points.
Hardrict led the Trojans with seven assists.
NIACC returns to action on Saturday at the Konigsmark Klassic. The Trojans face Quakerdale Prep Academy at 3 p.m.
