Brown takes over Trojan baseball program on interim basis
MASON CITY – Tyler Brown has been named the interim head coach for the NIACC baseball team.
Brown replaces former NIACC head coach Josh Merrill, who stepped down after three seasons to take the head coaching position at Eastern Oklahoma State College.
"He knows this program, understands what's expected and is ready to lead," NIACC athletic director Ryan Flickinger said Friday about Brown. "This move gives us stability and allows us to focus on continuing to improve each day.
"We're moving forward and we are confident in the direction we're headed."
Brown was an assistant coach for three seasons under Merrill. Brown has been the head baseball coach at Clear Lake High School for the past two summers.
Brown was the hitting and infield coach for the Trojans.
Brown began his coaching career at Central Christian College where he worked with hitters, infielders and baserunners for two years.
Prior to coaching at CCC, Brown played on the team, where he neared a program record in doubles, while winning a Sooner Athletic Conference Gold Glove and graduated with a bachelor of science in business.
NIACC was 18-34 overall and 11-22 in 2025. Lincoln Becker, George McIntyre and Caden Watson earned honorable mention all-region honors for the Trojans.
