Trojans' Conley places 2nd in hurdles events at regionals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC sophomore Taja Conley placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles on Sunday at the NJCAA Region 11 Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Iowa Western.
Conley earned her second-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 15.25 seconds. Iowa Western's Tanique Taylor was the 100-meter champion in a time of 14.14.
Conley's time of 15.25 ranks second on the school's all-time 100-meter hurdles list. Conley's previous personal best was 15.72 at the Mount Mercy DeBacker Invitational on April 19, 2025.
Conley placed second in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:08.23. Iowa Central's Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula was the 400 hurdles champion in a time of 1:05.70.
NIACC freshman Olivia Spurling was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal best time of 12:59.46. Iowa Western's Elizabeth Ewusie was the steeplechase champion in a time of 11:17.60.
Spurling's time of 12:59.46 ranks second on the school's all-time steeplechase list. Spurling's previous personal best was 13:06.79 at the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11, 2025.
NIACC's Cloey Usher was fourth in the steeplechase in a time of 14:14.79.
Also for the Trojans, Spurling was third in the 5,000 in a time of 21:13.21. Cloey Usher was sixth in the 5,000 in a time of 23:41.11.
sophomore Tenisha Herbert was fourth in the 400 in a time of 1:02.89. Emily Usher was fifth in the 400 (1:05.18) and Suzanne Guedeyi was sixth (1:06.59).
In the hammer, NIACC's Kit Byars was fifth with a toss of 36.07 meters (118 feet, 4 inches). Hannah Brinkman was ninth with a toss of 31.30 meters (102-8).
In the shot put, Brinkman was sixth with a toss of 11.01 meters (36-1 1/2).
In the 800, Juliana Droll was 10th in a time of 2:34.36.
NIACC placed fourth with a total of 74.5 points. Iowa Western was the regional champion with 265 points and Iowa Central was second with 213 points.
