IOWA FALLS - The No. 9 NIACC women's basketball team opened its season with a 97-86 victory over the Grand View University junior varsity on Friday at the Dale Howard Classic on the Ellsworth campus.

Sophomore Kelcie Hale scored 23 points, including five 3-point goals, to lead the Lady Trojans to the season-opening win.

Also for NIACC, Sierra Lynch scored 22 points and Sierra Morrow scored 21 points and blocked seven shots. Abby Leach scored 14 points and Allie Negen scored nine points.

The Grand View JV led 21-17 after the first quarter and held a 48-41 lead at the half.

NIACC connected on 13 3-point goals as NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto improved to 6-0 in season openers.

NIACC returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday against Bryant & Stratton (Wis.) on the second day of the Dale Howard Classic.
