NIACC's James wins 200 at DeBacker Invite
CEDAR RAPIDS - NIACC sophomore Tyreese James won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 400-meter dash Saturday at the Mount Mercy DeBacker Invitational.
James won the 200 in a time of 21.41 seconds and was second in the 400 in a time of 48.00. Both times by James were personal bests and both times rank third on the shcool's all-time outdoor 200 and 400 lists.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, freshman Joshua Koffi was second in the 100 in a time of 11.01. Sophomore Ryan Kelly was second in the 5,000 in a time of 16:08.28.
NIACC's Jewel Jackson was fourth in the 100 (11.08) and Rodney Ngezimani was fourth in the discus with a toss of 43.25 meters (141 feet, 11 inches). The 43.25 toss by Ngezimani ranks third on the school's all-time discus list.
The Trojans' Colin Rasch was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.40 meters (43-11 3/4), which ranks sixth on the school's all-time outdoor shot put list. Ngezimani was seventh in the shot put (13.25 meters/43-5 3/4).
Rasch was also 13th in the hammer throws with a toss of 35.78 meters (117-5), which ranks eighth on the school's all-time hammer list.
NIACC's Marshall Zeien was fifth in the discus with a throw of 43.25 meters (134-1).
NIACC's Gabe Hemsworth was fifth in the 400 in a time of 49.45, which ranks sixth on the school's all-time 400 outdoor list. Jackson was eighth in the 200 (22.59).
NIACC returns to action this weekend at the Drake Relays and the Grand View Viking Classic on Friday in Des Moines.
