CEDAR FALLS - NIACC had plenty of opportunities early but those missed chances led to a 1-0 loss Tuesday to Hawkeye Community College in men's soccer.
"We played very well in the first half – hit the bar three times and had a goal disallowed – and we had opportunities to kill the game off," NIACC coach Jon Platt said. "In the second half, Hawkeye just grew into the game."
The contest remained scoreless until Hawkeye scored the game-winner in the 95th minute.
NIACC out-shot Hawkeye 8-6.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at No. 7 Marshalltown. Match time is set for 2 p.m. Marshalltown opened the season with a 7-0 win over Scott CC on Tuesday.
In other ICCAC matches Tuesday, Iowa Central topped Northeast CC 6-0 and No. 4 Iowa Western edged Iowa Lakes 2-1.
