NIACC volleyball team opens practice

MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team began practice for the 2017 season on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans have a roster of six sophomores and six freshman for head coach Chris Brandt, who begins her eighth season as coach.

The sophomores on this year's roster are Kyra Marquez, Katelyn Wilson, Amanda Borden, Sammi Hyde, Brooke Greenwood and Becca Konz.

The freshman are Connor Gauch, Hannah Wagner, Shelby Heston, Sydney Rousch, Riley Olena and Jordana Foote.

Greenwood accumulated 127 kills and had 107 blocks during her freshman season. Konz had 97 kills and 46 blocks and Borden had 68 kills, 42 digs and 24 blocks.

NIACC opens its season Aug. 25-26 at the Wisconsin Dells Tournament. The Lady Trojans home opener is set for Sept. 1 against the Wartburg College Junior Varsity.
