Willems leads No. 10 NIACC, 109-74

MASON CITY - In her second collegiate game, freshman Mandy Williams made her mark on the NIACC women's basketball record book.

Willems, a guard who prepped at AGWSR, scored 45 points, including 10 3-point goals in No. 10 NIACC's 109-74 victory over Bay College Saturday on Day Two of the annual Konigsmark Klassic.

The 45 points by Willems ranks second on the school's all-time single-game scoring list. Trudy Peterson owns the school record for points in a single game with 51 against Kennedy King College in the 2015-16 season.

The 10 3-point goals by Willems is tied for fourth in school history for most made 3-point goals in a single game. Jennifer Currier (1987-88) and Peterson (2015-16) are tied atop the single-game 3-point list with 12.

The last time a NIACC women's player scored at least 40 points in a game was when Taylor Laabs scored 42 points against Southwestern on Feb. 3, 2018. The last time a Lady Trojan made 10 3-point goals in a game was on Jan. 16, 2016 when Sammie Sproul drained 10 3-point goals against Ellsworth.

Also for the Lady Trojans on Saturday, freshman Jada Buford scored 23 points with six steals, five assists and five rebounds. Autam Mendez scored 19 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

NIACC (2-0 overall) returns to action at 2 p.m. Friday against Marshalltown CC at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls.
