NIACC splits twinbill with Ellsworth

IOWA FALLS - The NIACC softball team split a doubleheader with Ellsworth on Thursday.

Ellsworth won the first game 11-10 and NIACC won the second game 5-2.

In the second game, Courtney Johannes tossed a complete-game one hitter to gain the win for the Lady Trojans. The sophomore right-hander struck out eight, walked four and allowed two runs (one earned) in the fifth inning.

NIACC plated two runs in the second inning, two in the fourth frame and one in the fifth inning. Shelby Low, Kodi Hillman and Hailee Ausenhus all collected two hits a piece for the Lady Trojans.

Ausenhus drove in two of the five Lady Trojans' runs. Johannes and Hillman also both drove in one run.

In the first game, NIACC led 8-1 after the top of the fifth inning, but Ellsworth scored nine runs in its half of the fifth inning.

Katie Chapman led the NIACC offense by going 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Kaitlyn Carlson, Alyssa Laxson and Johannes all had two hits each for the Lady Trojans.
