NIACC sweeps Iowa Central

AUSTIN, Minn. - The NIACC softball team swept a doubleheader from Iowa Central on Saturday.

NIACC won the first game 8-7 and completed the sweep with a 14-9 victory in the nightcap.

With the sweep, NIACC improved to 13-17 overall and 4-4 in the ICCAC.

In the first game, NIACC scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-6 lead. NIACC's Courtney Johannes held Iowa Central to a single run in the seventh inning to gain the save.

NIACC's Katie Chapman was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Hailee Ausenhus drove in two runs. Shelby Low also collected two hits for the Lady Trojans.

In the second game, Johannes powered the NIACC offense by going 4 for 5 with six RBIs. It was the third game this season that Johannes drove in at least six runs in a game.

Johannes drove in seven in the first game of a doubleheader against Southeast CC on March 9 and she plated six runs in second game of twinbill against Marshalltown CC on March 22.

Alyssa Laxson and Kodi Hillman both collected two hits for the Lady Trojans.

Johannes (8-5) also gained the complete-game win. She allowed nine runs and 11 hits with six strikeouts and six walks.
