NIACC sweeps Century College

AUSTIN, Minn. - The NIACC softball team improved to 5-3 overall with a sweep of Century College on Friday.

NIACC won the first game 27-0 in five innings and took the second game 13-1 also in five innings.

In the first game, sophomore Courtney Johannes tossed her first career no-hitter. Johannes struck out a career-high 13 and walked two.

Johannes' previous career strikeout total was eight against North Platte CC on March 4, 2017.

Also in the opener, the Lady Trojans pounded out 14 hits, including five doubles. Kaitlyn Carlson, Alyssa Laxson and Katie Chapman all collected two hits.

Morgan Thesing-Ritter led the Lady Trojans with five RBIs. Chapman, Alex Hable, Kiara Donaldson and Johannes all had three RBIs.

In the second game, Carlson was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Thesing-Ritter was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and one RBI and Kayla Till was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Hailee Ausenhus was 3 for 3.

Chapman scored two runs and drove in two runs and Donaldson drove in two runs.

Thesing-Ritter gained the win in the second game. She allowed one hit and one run while collected 10 strikeouts.

NIACC returns to action March 9 in a doubleheader against Southeast CC in Beatrice, Neb. The twinbill is slated to start at 2 p.m.

Notes: Thesing-Ritter has 98 career hits ... Johannes has a career record of 6-9 and 68 career strikeouts.
