NIACC sweeps Luther JV to complete regular season

DECORAH - The NIACC baseball team put the wraps on a 38-17 regular season by sweeping the Luther College Junior Varsity on Monday.

NIACC won the first game 6-1 as Nate Overby (2-0) tossed a complete-game 3-hitter. The Trojans took the second game 12-0 as five pitchers combined for a 3-hit shutout.

In the first game, Overby, who struck out six and did not walk a batter, allowed a single run in the seventh inning.

Mitch Neunborn led the NIACC offense in the opener by going 2 for 4, including a double and home run, and four RBIs. Joey Werner was 3 for 4, including an inside-the-park home run, and two RBIs.

In the second game, Cody Kellogg (1-0) pitched two innings of no-hit ball to claim the win. Noah Egger, Blake Preston, Antonio Rivera Jr., and Brody Gugat all pitched an inning of relief to keep the Norse off the scoreboard.

NIACC's Matt Schwarz, Cam Shannon, Ben Komonsky and Cade Schares all had two hits each in the second game.

NIACC opens play in the NJCAA Region XI tournament at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans earned the two seed in the regional tournament and received a first-round bye.
